Did you know that ice cubes can be an effective tool to assist with your mental health, including anxiety, panic attacks, and dissociation?
Suggested uses include:
- Take a handful of icecubes and hold tightly in your hand for as long as you can, focussing on the coldness - this will assist with grounding.
- Pop a few icecubes in your mouth and suck or chew - great for activating the parasympathetic nervous system to calm and distract, whilst also combatting dry mouth.
- Place a handful of icecubes in a ziplock bag, take a deep breath and place across your face or cheeks, hold for 30 seconds to a minute (if comfortable to do so - do not try this if you have cardiac problems) - this will cue your 'dive' reflex, slowing down the heart rate and calming the body.
- When feeling intense anger, these can also be used as a great way to blow off some steam - take a handful outside and throw against the wall or floor to expel some of that pent up energy.*
